Sep 11, 2014 (newstodate): Air Greenland is amid a process to re-evaluate its strategy against the deep changes in the country's economic prospects.
Until recently, Greenland was expecting a boom in international investments in search for oil, gas and minerals, but the exploration projects have dried up and are not now on the horizon.
-From a Greenland in a growth environment we are now seeing growth and development to come only in a future scenario, and Air Greenland is of course to rein in its expectations accordingly, says Christian Keldsen, Air Greenland CCO.
-We are now looking over our entire business including the range of products and services offered, as well as prices and rates. Do not expect a major change in our set-up, but rather adjustments to match the new situation.
-As for the size of our rotary-wing fleet, we have to wait for the outcome of negotiations over service contract with the Greenland state before making a decision, while the number of smaller helicopters will depend on the volume of charter contracts.
-We recently had to reduce staff and commitments on a number of heliports in southern Greenland as the state has decided for a split boat/helicopter solution for serving the small communities - a solution we are not party to. But this has nothing to do with the ongoing revision of our strategy, says Mr Keldsen.
Already in February 2014, Air Greenland cancelled its order, placed in 2011, for two EC225 Super Puma Helicopters slated for delivery in 2014.
The two large helicopters were intended for use in the oil and gas exploration projects that are now shelved till a later day.
