Aug 14, 2014 (newstodate): Plans for establishing new direct airlinks between the USA and the Balkan/Central European region are maturing.
After Serbia's recent upgrading to CAT 1 by the US FAA, skies are now open for launch of flights by Serbian carrier Air Serbia that will launch own services to New York from late in 2015 or early in 2016.
Air Serbia also considers flights to Chicago and Toronto at a later stage.
Now the Bulgarian carrier BH Air is also mulling plans for setting up services from Sofia to New York and Chicago from next year which would be the first direct flight in 12 years between the two markets by a Bulgarian carrier.
In the fleet of BH Air is currently one Airbus A330-200 aircraft while Air Serbia has still to decide on its future long-haul fleet.
