Aug 25, 2014 (newstodate): The Swedish aircraft leasing company Alandia Air, incorporated in the Eriksson Capital group, has its focus on operational lease of a fleet of SAAB 340 aircraft.
-Our fleet today comprises nine SAAB 340 passenger aircraft and three SAAB 340 freighter aircraft, of which eight are B and four are B versions, says Jorgen Gustafsson, Alandia Air CEO.
-Besides, we are continuously growing, taking in one or two more aircraft every year. We are basically always interested in acquiring more SAAB 340 aircraft whenever there is an attractive offer in the market.
-Our market for lease of aircraft is mostly outside Europe and primarily in America and Asia where operators find the aircraft very useful for feeder services into larger airports.
-The aircraft is long out of production, but well maintained it will serve its operators for another 15-20 years. Besides, at modest capital cost it can be leased out at attractive price levels, which makes an attractive offering in the market also for start-up airlines or for serving thin routes.
-We will probably never see another new aircraft like this, offering only 33-35 seats for flights on shorter regional routes. No aircraft manufacturer would find this a tempting business case, leaving the SAAB 340 unique in the market. Besides, it is still upgraded according to FAA requirements, so it actually always an aircraft up to modern standards, says Mr Gustafsson.
While thus still dedicated to the SABB340 aircraft, Alandia Air is monitoring market trends, looking into other aircraft types for future acquisition.
A total of 459 SAAB 340 aircraft were built during 1983-1999, and the bulk of the fleet is still in the air.
