Aug 22, 2014 (newstodate): The implementation of the e-AWB in Norway is progressing in a demanding environment where the bulk of the export consists of fresh seafood, notably salmon shipments.
-The e-AWB for salmon is indeed a special case. One main issue is that with the salmon we often need to correct final weight after pallets have arrived at the ground handling agent who will then do the final weight check, says Noud Duyzings, Director KLM/Air France/Martinair Cargo Nordic.
-The airlines are fully ready to electronically process the final weight corrections, but handlers and agents have not yet reached this level, also because the final process is not clear.
-Hence, we are working on an SOP, Standard Operating Procedure, where agents are electronically informed by the GHA's about the final weight, and the approval then flows from agents in order to process the final invoicing by the airlines.
-Hopefully, we are able to reach agreement with agents and GHAs about such a process within two weeks.
-Crucial to the shipments of salmon are the veterinary certificates that are, however, not part of the AWB itself. At this stage, only the AWB is processed electronically. All additional documents, like vet certificates, are part of the pouch which can still go in paper with the shipment.
-Only when the full e-Freight concept is realized will all documents belonging to the pouch go electronically, but this is not on the agenda at this stage, says Mr Duyzings.
