Aug 01, 2014 (newstodate): The loss-making carrier Cyprus Airways, owned 94 percent by the Cypriot state, has been put up for privatization, and a Romanian carrier is among bidders.
The Romanian low-cost carrier Blue Air went bust in 2012, but the brand was acquired by Romanian and Belgian investors that have managed to bring Blue Air back into the skies with a fleet comprising 10 Boeing 737 aircraft, with Gheorghe Racaru as General Manager.
Industry sources say that the Russian investment company Renaissance Capital is teaming up with Blue Air to place a firm bid on Cyprus Airways that operates a fleet of six Airbus A320 aircraft on a network comprising 19 routes to destinations in Europe and the Middle East.
