Aug 26, 2014 (newstodate): Plans are again surfacing for setting up a helicopter service connecting Helsinki and St Petersburg.
Latest newcomer to the scenario is a Russian company also engaged in hotels and tourism activities in St Petersburg.
The plans build on the opening of a new border crossing point at Kronstadt in the St Petersburg region, which will allow for handling of passengers on the planned flights.
If realized, the helicopter operations will start in connection to the 2018 World Cup.
A similar project was earlier proposed by the Finnish helicopter company Copterline that operated flights from 2011 between Tallinn and Helsinki, ceasing traffic again in 2013, and later another Russian company, Russair aired the idea of helicopter services between St Petersburg and Helsinki, Kotka and Lappeenranta aiming at start by 2014.
