Aug 29, 2014 (newstodate): Already in November 2012, Russia's aviation body Rosaviatsia designated Transaero to offer direct regular flights from between Moscow and Keflavik.
Plans were for Transaero to offer two weekly rotations on the route starting from the summer season 2013.
But these plans never materialized, and Transaero has now confirmed that despite having secured slots at Keflavik, the carrier has no intentions of starting flights on the route.
Instead Icelandair remains alone in providing air services between two countries, launching flights to St Petersburg, its first Russian destination, from the 2013 summer schedule, with two weekly flights from Keflavik during the season.
Next, Icelandair and Aeroflot signed a code-share agreement taking effect from March 30, 2014, under which the two airlines reciprocally add their codes to flights between Iceland and Russia via third-countries.
Thus flights between Keflavik and Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and St Petersburg operated by Finnair carry Aeroflot's code, and Aeroflot's flights between Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport and Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Amsterdam and St Petersburg carry Icelandair's flight code.
