Aug 20, 2014 (newstodate): As the implementation of the e-AWB is gaining momentum in the Nordic region now, Iceland is following suit and already quite advanced as well.
-Since the end of May we have been live with e-AWB on our main route from Keflavik to Liege, and the implementation is progressing well, says Bertel Olafsson, Icelandair Cargo Manager Cargo Systems.
-The majority of export shipments on this lane is now on e-AWB, and the proportion is steadily growing. Iceland is perhaps unique as most of the shipments are coming to us directly from shippers, with few forwarders involved, so we are basically performing as freight forwarders as to exports.
-In the pipeline now is the testing of the e-AWB on routes from Keflavik to Copenhagen, London, New York and Boston, and more will follow gradually. Work on the e-AWB on the import side will follow in cooperation with our stations abroad.
-Before the end of this year, or by early 2015, we also intend to join the group of nine airlines that agreed to take the lead in the process in the Nordic region, including Lufthansa Cargo, KLM/Air France, Finnair, SAS, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airlines and Emirates, says Mr Olafsson.
