Aug 12, 2014 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo is taking the final steps towards implementing the IATA e-AWB in the Finnish airfreight market.
-We are indeed launching e-AWB now on Thursday, August 14, as part of the Nordic Single Process e-AWB project lead by IATA and multiple airlines including Airfrance/KLM/Martinair Cargo, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Cargo, Emirates, Finnair, Iberia, Icelandair, Korean Air Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Qatar Airways, SAS Cargo, says Milla Nyholm, Finnair Cargo marketing manager.
-To expedite the launch, we have offered forwarding agents the opportunity to start sending e-AWB shipments already now so they can test their eAWB readiness.
-The prerequisite for starting e-AWB use is that each forwarding company has signed IATA's Multilateral e-AWB Agreement to cover the conditions of carriage previously found on the back of a traditional paper AWB, and selected whether they will start delivering AWB data via IATA's EDI Cargo IMP, or via Finnair's web tool, eBooking.
-If they choose to use the messages, these need to be tested to ensure message quality, i.e. that all required information is included, says Mr Nyholm.
The e-AWB Launch Nordics process will lift off with ambitions to reach the percentage of e-AWBs to 22 percent by the end of 2014, 45 percent by the end of 2015 - and 80 percent one year later.
