Aug 26. 2014 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways has now taken leave of its last remaining Avro RJ100 aircraft.
Currently operating a fleet comprising three Airbus A319, the carrier has placed its last Avro RJ100 aircraft on a long-term dry lease contract taking effect from August 2014 with the Swedish carrier Malmo Aviation.
Next, one of the three Airbus A320 will go from early 2015 as the carrier retreats from the international charter market, and plans are further to take in a new aircraft type to provide capacity for new flights connecting the Faroe Islands with destinations in neighboring markets under the NORD-strategy, including flights to Bergen, Aberdeen and Reykjavik/Keflavik.
Atlantic Airways is evaluating Embraer 145, CRJ200 and Q400 as its future aircraft to build this regional network, with one aircraft to be introduced by spring 2015.
A decision on outright purchase or possible forms of leasing has yet to be taken, but the choice of aircraft will be made in October 2015.
