Aug 20, 2014 (newstodate): Amid a general cooling of the air between Russia and the EU, Finnair has opened flights on a new route to Russia.
Long on Finnair's wishing list, Kazan is now served with direct flights from Helsinki, with the carrier offering three weekly rotations with Embraer 190 aircraft since August 18, 2014.
Besides serving the business companies at both sides of the route and offering transit flights via Helsinki on Finnair's European and EU route net, the new route will also serve the significant Tatar diaspora in Finland.
With the addition of Kazan as an on-line Finnair destination, Russia has thus become the market with the largest number of destinations served by the carrier.
Finnair thus operates scheduled flights from Helsinki to Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and now also Kazan, all served with Embraer E90 aircraft operated on behalf of Finnair by Flybe Finland.
