Aug 13, 2014 (newstodate): DAT, Danish Air Transport, is doing well in 2014 with all aircraft operating on contracts during the summer season.
-Winter seasons are always a challenge, though, as demand for capacity is lower and many providers throw temporary excess capacity into the market, says Jesper Rungholm, DAT CEO.
-The competition is especially tough in the European market, so we are open to business on a worldwide basis, benefiting from our IOSA certification.
-IOSA certified airline customers can take in only IOSA certified ACMI providers, and we can also take jobs in markets where registration of aircraft is complicated due the fact that as IOSA certified carrier we can operate our aircraft on our own registration in foreign markets.
-Another challenge for us is competing with carriers from low-wage countries. We cannot of course compete on their terms as a Danish company, but our prime asset here is the fact that we own our aircraft. Lower capital costs certainly provide us with an edge, says Mr Rungholm.
DAT will take delivery of its second Airbus A320 aircraft by November, and Mr Rungholm does not preclude that DAT will consider more Airbus A320 aircraft in the fleet in the future.
-The Airbus aircraft is just a perfect choice for us, he says.
