Jul 04, 2014 (newstodate): The flow of news around the project Viking International Airlines has run dry.
Repeated calls to one of the driving forces behind the project, Ragnvald Brobakken, Aeroconsult Norway, have remained unanswered, but at least it seems safe to conclude that project is running behind schedule as the first Boeing 747 aircraft was earlier said to be presented at Oslo Gardermoen Airport in early June 2014, readying for certification.
In the first phase, the carrier would set up cargo flights through Lakselv Banak Airport in Northern Norway, to be followed by the introduction of flights with Boeing 747 combi aircraft lifting both seafood exports and passengers to destinations in the USA and Asia.
One visible sign of life is the registration of Viking International Airlines in Finland where the aircraft will also be registered to quality as EU operations.
However, indicating that work on the project is indeed still progressing is confirmation from Lakselv Banak Airport that representatives from Viking International Airlines are active on the site.
-I am aware that people from the airline have been visiting the airport repeatedly to make preparations for handling of the cargo shipments and the flight operations, says Steinn Solheim, Lakselv Banak Airport manager.
