Jul 30, 2014 (newstodate): After a hectic period with a boom in volumes of airfreight, Latvia's Riga Airport is again returning to more normal conditions.
During the first half of this year, the airport has been handling a total of 17,124 tonnes of cargo, down 22.7 percent, y-o-y.
Driving last year's dynamic growth were the operations in support of the ISAF forces with Riga Airport as a multi-modal hub provided by several weekly freighter flights.
Month by month, the volumes through Riga Airport have been either on a par with 2013 or significantly lower, especially in June 2014 when volumes dipped 52.7 percent, y-o-y, to only 3,336 tonnes.
In 2013, Riga Airport handled 53,539 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 62.5 percent, y-o-y.
