Jul 30, 2014 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo saw market demands declining in June but responded with strict planning of the capacity offered.
-Our June figures were below our targeted levels. There was a decline in demand in key markets in Europe and Asia which led to volume decrease by 2.3 percent in the tonnage carried, says Juha Jarvinen, Finnair Cargo Managing Director.
-However, our load factor improved by 7.6 percentage-points to 70.6 percent as we managed the capacity better. On the Brussels freighter operations we operated with A300-600F instead of MD11F, and built up frequency instead to four weekly rotations, two A300-600F and two A340, on the Helsinki-Brussels lane, which proved to be the right move.
-Last summer we also still operated freighters to Mumbai and New York, and now this year three weekly Hong Kong services only. Therefore the NGA operated freighter tonnage was down by 22.4 percent. This goes in line with our plan to critically manage the freighter capacity in a tough market environment.
-The main concern for Finnair Cargo and for the industry in general remains the yield decline, which continued in first six months of 2014, says Mr Jarvinen.
