Jul 29, 2014 (newstodate): Cargo volumes were not booming at Finnair Cargo in June 2014 - but capacity was managed to secure better cargo load factors.
The company carried a total of 12,878 tonnes cargo during the month, a drop by 2.3 percent, y-o-y, including 10,090 tonnes on passenger flights and 2,787 tonnes on freighters including the capacity on JAL's Helsinki flights.
Both segments were below 2013-levels, though, even if the cooperation with JAL was not in effect then.
Thus cargo on pax flights dropped 1.2 percent, and cargo on freighters was down by 2.3 percent.
Only the European traffic grew positively by 9.2 percent to 2,225 tonnes also reflecting the increased traffic between the company's two cargo hubs at Helsinki and Brussels, in Belgium.
All other segments were down in volumes, notably the important Asian traffic that was down 3.7 percent, y-o-y, to 7,064 tonnes.
During the first half of the year, Finnair Cargo has generated a total of 73,689 tonnes which is a growth by 6.7 percent including cargo on pax flights 55,509 tonnes, up 1.5 percent, and 18,104 tonnes on freighters, up 27.7 percent, y-o-y.
Crucial to the company's emphasis on the Asian strategy, cargo volumes did not gain much weight during H1, 2014, up only 1.5 percent, y-o-y, to 38,920 tonnes on pax flights.
