Jul 30, 2014 (newstodate): The cooperation between Estonian Air and Vxj Smland Airport in Sweden proved a short-lived success.
Vxj Smland Airport in Sweden contracted Estonian Air to serve the route between Vxj and Amsterdam on a one-year agreement starting from May 2014 and offering eight weekly rotations in a code-share with KLM.
But market demand has proved too weak to sustain operations that will cease with the last flight on August 10, 2014.
This leaves Estonian Air with the weight of two surplus aircraft, one of which has been placed with Air Charter Service from January 1, 2014, for European charter and ACMI operations.
This second Embraer 170 aircraft dedicated to the Vxj-Amsterdam operation is thus again to be standing idle with Estonian Air after August 10.
-The agreement with Vxj Smland Airport gives Estonian Air a very good possibility to utilize the second of its two surplus aircraft capacity with low risk, and it is of course convenient to operate to Amsterdam since we do operate the same destination from Tallinn, Jan Palmer, Estonian Air CEO, told newstodate in February 2014 when the deal was truck.
