Jun 02, 2014 (newstodate): The authorities of USA and Azerbaijan are in talks over an open-skies air services agreement.
With the agreement in place, airlines from both countries would be free to launch air services between any points in each-others markets.
The planned new agreement would come before the launch of Azerbaijan Airlines' planned services between Baku and New York from this autumn as the first air service between the South Caucasian region and North America.
Azerbaijan obtained Category 1 rating in the revision of FAA Flight Standards Service, published on March 7, 2014, allowing airlines registered in Azerbaijan to launch flights on new routes to North America on aircraft registered in the country.
Azerbaijan Airlines has thus now applied to the US Department of Transportation for permission to serve New York from this winter with Airbus A340-500, two of which are in the fleet of carrier.
