Jun 05, 2014 (newstodate): The skies between Russia and Georgia are still rather empty since commercial air traffic was stopped in 2006.
As a result of the war between Russia and Georgia, all commercial flights were suspended between the two countries, and despite effort to revive traffic in 2008, all services were again suspended after a brief period, requiring air passengers to travel via third countries at high penalties in time and costs.
A fresh effort was made in 2014 - but a meeting aiming at preparing for a normalization of the conditions scheduled for May was postponed, and no new date has been set.
Georgia is pressing for a return of services, but the Russian response has so far been evasive.
