Jun 16, 2014 (newstodate): The project for launch of a new freighter and combi service between Norway, USA and Asia is moving ahead.
-There indeed still a lot of paperwork to be handled, but we are still heading towards the goal: a start of services by September, says Ragnvald Brobakken, Aeroconsult Norway, consultant to the project as well as professionally working together with John Kunkel - ex-Atlas Air Chief Pilot, and a driving force in the project.
-The first aircraft will be a Boeing 747 all-freighter to be based at Oslo Gardermoen while this and the additional Boeing 747 aircraft including the combi-versions will be placed on Finnish registry, belonging to Viking International Airlines Finland.
-Needless to say, the involvement of the civil aviatoin authorities in both Norway and Finland requires some cooperation and coordination, but we are happy to see that also the Norwegian authority is backing the project firmly, and the issue of the military's participation in Lakselv Banak Airport has also been solved.
-The freighter aircraft will very soon arrive in Oslo on US registration, to be changed next to Finnish registration and licensed for Transatlantic flights from Norway, says Mr Brobakken.
The new carrier will also very soon announce its management structure as well as present its business plans to the public.
