Jun 19, 2014 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' carrier Atlantic Airways has now presented its strategy for 2014-1018 in an effort to re-focus on serving the needs of the country's communication with its Nordic markets.
The carrier's route network will be based on three axis: Denmark, NORD, and SOL - the trunk routes between the Faroe Islands and Denmark, NORD with frequent connections between the Faroe Islands, Norway, Iceland and the UK, and SOL comprising flights from the Faroe Islands to leisure destinations with opportunities for the public to vote for favorite destinations.
Gone are visions of maintaining aircraft capacity dedicated to international charter operators and the ACMI market, meaning that Atlantic Airways will let go one of its three Airbus A319 aircraft, one of which is owned while the two other aircraft are operated on lease contracts.
To implement the business segment NORD, Atlantic Airways is now evaluating three alternatives for a new aircraft type to be phased in from spring 2015: Embraer 145, CRJ200, or Bombardier Q400, with one aircraft to start with when the new traffic segment is opened by March 2015.
The decision on this new aircraft will be made already by October 2014.
Also part of the new strategy, the company's organization has been slimmed by one intermediate level, putting the directors of Commercial, Operations, Technical, HR together on the Board, while "other business areas" including charter, cargo and helicopter operations are kept aside.
