Jun 24, 2014 (newstodate): The new Greenland carrier Greenland Express is currently building up its air cargo capability.
The carrier is yet to receive its AWBs enabling it to carry airfreight, and a handling contract with Spirit Air Cargo Handling has been signed covering the airport of Copenhagen, Billund and Aalborg in Denmark.
No cargo GSSA contract has so far been signed and may not be needed either as most of the cargo between Greenland and Denmark is generated by a few specific shippers and forwarders, rendering marketing and open sales of minor importance.
Greenland Express' flights are performed with Denim Air's Fokker 100 aircraft that can take up to 2.2 tonnes of cargo on a flight with full passenger loads, and up to 3.5 tonnes depending on the passenger booking status.
-As for cargo, we have already signed up with seafood exporters in Greenland that will basically take up our limited capacity, and the same holds true for cargo out of Denmark. So we will not set up a specific cargo department from the start, or contract a cargo GSA, Gert Brask, Greenland Express CEO, told newstodate already in February 2014.
