Jun 18, 2014 (newstodate): As a prerequisite for expanding its intercontinental route network with new offerings from Oslo and Stockholm from next year already, SAS will increase its wide-body fleet as well.
Earlier plans to gradually retire all seven Airbus A340-300 aircraft as their current leasing agreements expire while the carrier takes in its first of four new Airbus A330-300 Enhanced aircraft starting from 2015 have now been revised.
Three of the four A340-300 aircraft will thus remain in the fleet to allow for the new routes to come.
In October 2013,5 SAS also firmed up its MoU from June 2013 with Airbus for a new generation of long-haul aircraft.
SAS will thus take delivery of its first of eight Airbus A350-900 XWB aircraft in 2018, and the carrier still holds options for a further six aircraft.
