Jun 11, 2014 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI carrier Alpha Express Airlines had big plans - but is now struggling for its existence.
The carrier took over its first Airbus A320 aircraft in April 2014, but the aircraft remains on the ground after having been ferried today from Riga Airport to Oslo Gardermoen Airport by the lessor, BBAM.
-We have not obtained our commercial license from the authorities and are thus not able to put the aircraft into service, says Rolands Ramins, Alpha Express Airlines Managing Director.
-We have not been able to fulfill EU requirements on shareholding structure, having lost some of our investors in the project. At this moment it seems impossible to predict which way events will turn, and when things will happen to improve the situation, says Mr Ramins.
According to its original plans, Alpha Express Airlines would by now have taken in its second Airbus A320 aircraft but this process has been stalled as well.
Alpha Express Airlines was registered in 2012 and took delivery of its first aircraft in 2013 - an ex-Georgian Star International Airbus A300F4-200 freighter stationed in Sharjah.
But after a brief period, the carrier pulled out from the freighter market, seeing more business prospects in the charter and ACMI segments for passenger aircraft.
