Jun 20, 2014 (newstodate): Wizz Air has now announced the opening of its 17th operational base at Riga Airport, Latvia.
The carrier will initially allocate one Airbus A320 aircraft at Riga, opening four new routes from Riga to Barcelona, Doncaster Sheffield, Dortmund and Paris Beauvais.
Besides these new routes, Wizz Air is also increasing the frequencies on the existing services to London Luton and Oslo Torp, and the carrier is now offering flights on eight routes from the Latvian capital.
As the second European LCC to operate at Riga after Ryanair that started its operations in Latvia on October 31, 2004, Wizz Air launched operations at Riga Airport on March 13, 2010, with three weekly rotations on the route from Oslo Torp Airport, Norway.
Elsewhere in the Baltic region, Wizz Air established Vilnius in Lithuania as its 14th operational base from April 17, 2011, allocating one A320 aircraft at Vilnius Airport, and adding a second aircraft from May 2012.
The carrier is still not present in the Estonian market.
