Jun 10, 2014 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo saw a nice growth in May 2014, with total volumes up 11.2 percent, y-o-y, to 12,922 tonnes.
Loads on Finnair's passenger flights increased by 11.1 percent to 9,888 tonnes, and loads on Finnair Cargo's freighter flights as well as on JAL's flights between Helsinki and Tokyo were up 11.4 percent to 3,034 tonnes.
The North Atlantic traffic did not contribute to growth, with volumes down 9.5 percent to 581 tonnes, but excluding leisure traffic and domestic traffic all other business segments were positive, not least Asia that grew by 11,7 percent to 6,948 tonnes.
The European traffic also performed well, with volumes rising 17.2 percent to 2,217 reflecting the growing importance of Finnair Cargo's second European hub at Brussels.
In the first five months of this year, Finnair Cargo is thus up 8.8 percent, y-o-y, in cargo, to 60,811 tonnes.
The crucial Asian traffic did suffer in the period, with volumes up only 1.3 percent to 31,856 tonnes.
And again, the growth was especially marked in the freighter and purchased traffic, up 36.6 percent to 15,317 tonnes
