Jun 19, 2014 (newstodate): The long-awaited first flight by the new US carrier under formation, Baltia Airlines may take to the air by the end of September 2014.
The carrier's first aircraft, a Boeing 747-200 has now been engined and plans are to start out with one weekly rotation on the route between New York and St Petersburg, increasing to five times a week in its in its first half-year of operation.
The carrier has obtained traffic rights to Moscow, Kiev, Riga and Minsk, and is applying for worldwide charter certification which could see it offer ad hoc services to Eastern Europe and the Baltic, including Athens, Budapest and Prague.
The carrier intends to focus also on cargo, planning to offer same-day deliveries of pre-cleared cargo between the USA and St Petersburg.
