Jun 19, 2014 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' carrier Atlantic Airways has revised its future route structure as part of the new Strategy 2018.
In summer seasons, the carrier will operate three weekly rotations on the route between Vagar and Copenhagen Airport, five weekly flights to Billund as well as two weekly rotations between Vagar and Aalborg, all using the company's two Airbus A319 that will remain in the fleet while one will go.
Also in summer from 2015, routes under the NORD strategy will be performed five times weekly on flights to destinations including Bergen, Aberdeen and Reykjavik/Keflavik, using a new aircraft type to be decided on in October this year.
Under the SOL strategy, Atlantic Airways will operate once weekly to Barcelona and Mallorca, also using the Airbus A319. In addition, the public may vote in one additional rotating destination to be put on the route map.
In winter seasons, the carrier will reduce the program serving Copenhagen by one flight to two daily rotations, while flights to Billund and Aalborg will be discontinued, leaving passengers to go by SAS at no extra pay.
With the new strategy, Atlantic Airways will cease the flights to London, while Mallorca will replace Milano on the network.
Excess short-term aircraft capacity may be put on the charter or ACMI markets while Atlantic Airways is retreating from the international charter and ACMI market by divesting of one Airbus A319 aircraft from 2015.
