May 09, 2014 (newstodate): Air Serbia is holding its breath in waiting for the outcome of FAA's inspection of its air safety standards.
As Serbia remains in Category II by the US FAA's air safety list since 2002, Serb carriers are barred from setting up new routes using aircraft with Serb registration.
Hopes are running high that Serbia will be lifted to Category 1 in the next version of the FAA list on air safety around the world.
Pending this, plans have now emerged for launch of services in 2015 between Belgrade and Chicago as the first US destination for the Serb carrier that is now minority-owned by Etihad.
Hopes are thus fading for earlier hopes to revive flights to New York already in 2014.
