May 27, 2014 (newstodate): Macedonia's plans for a new cargo-dedicated airport in the country's eastern part, near Stip, are still on the drawing-board.
Holding the concession of Macedonia's airports, TAV is responsible for construction of the new airport, including a runway, a passenger terminal, two cargo handling facilities for imports and exports, and two aircraft hangars.
The Stip Airport will be designed to handle the agricultural exports from Macedonia's producers in the region.
Plans have been on the table for more than five years, but no concrete action has yet been taken, and even the MET studies to decided on the location of the coming runway have been finalised.
According the the original agreement between Macedonia and TAV, Stip Cargo Airport should be commissioned by 2020, at the latest.
