May 21, 2014 (newstodate): Norway's Lakselv Banak Airport in the Finnmark region is upbeat about the coming freighter services to Asia and the USA.
-We have indeed been working hard on attracting more freighter business to our airport that is well-positioned to serving the country's seafood producers who will gain in shorter lead-times to the world markets by taking their shipments in the air from here, rather than having to truck the seafood exports to Oslo Gardermoen Airport, says Steinn Solheim, Lakselv Banak Airport manager.
-We are already engaged in the seafood exports on a more modest scale with two daily AN-12 freighters flying exports to Oslo for transfer to onward flights from there. Besides, we are also seeing several ad-hoc freighter operations from Stavanger and Holland mainly serving the oil exploration and drilling companies with urgent shipments, says Mr Solheim.
Lakselv Banak Airport has one 2,788 m runway and handled 2,842 tonne of cargo in 2013 - a steep fall by over 90 percent, compared to 2012.
