May 05, 2014 (newstodate): Plans are now materializing for the rapid implementation of the IATA e-AWB in the Nordic region.
As announced at the Nordic Air Cargo Symposium in Stockholm in April, nine IATA carriers have agreed to taking the lead in the process, including Lufthansa Cargo, KLM/Air France, Finnair, SAS, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airlines and Emirates.
Spearheading the process in the Swedish market will be Lufthansa Cargo, in Norway KLM/Air France will lead, in Denmark SAS Cargo will drive the process, as will Finnair Cargo in Finland.
The process will lift off with ambitions to raise the percentage of e-AWBs to 22 percent by the end of 2014, to 45 percent by the end of 2015 - and to 80 percent one year later.
As from May 1, 2014, FWB message before GAC will be mandatory for all shipments on participating carriers, and during May the lead carriers will arrange a series of forwarder workshops.
The first of these meetings and workshops with the freight forwarders have now been announced.
In Sweden, and hosted by Lufthansa Cargo, a workshop will take place on May 20, 2014, at the Radisson Blu Arlanda Airport Conference Center, with a second workshop set for June 3, 2014, at the Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport.
Lufthansa Cargo is also to set up a similar workshop on June 10, 2014, for airfreight forwarders in the Gothenburg region, with details to be announced later.
Norwegian forwarders are to meet in Oslo at a workshop arranged by KLM Cargo on June 10, 2014, with details to be announced shortly.
This leaves the Danish market still to take action with the process to be managed by SAS Cargo, which is also the case in Finland where Finnair Cargo will take the lead.
The drive to firm up the e-AWB implementation in the Nordic region will be further deepened from 2015 with a similar roll-out in the Baltic markets as well as in Iceland.
