May 12, 2014 (newstodate): Greenland has seen the launch of its first privately-owned helicopter company, GreenlandCopter.
Based at Tasiilaq, on Greenland's east coast, the company has now taken delivery of its first aircraft, a Eurocopter AS350B3e aiming at offering charter services to the tourist industry as well as to the mining and exploration industries popping up in the country.
The company, owned by Tim Nicolaisen, has obtained its AOC and is now readying for launch of commercial services after the final clearance by the Danish CAA.
Mr Nicolaisen, himself a pilot, was formerly working with the Danish carrier Sun Air.
In the plans is already the addition of a second aircraft once the company has lifted off.
