May 20, 2014 (newstodate): The new cargo handling facility near Finland's Helsinki Vantaa Airport, ASR Cargo Center - set up by the Hong Kong-based ASR Holding's European subsidiary ASR Europe - is growing its business according to plans.
-The air cargo market in Finland is not exactly booming, so we are growing and developing slowly but as anticipated, says Pasi Nopanen, ASR Cargo Center managing director.
-Our focus remains on attracting as much trucked cargo as possible, and this is showing promising results as we have now also added handling of Singapore Airlines Cargo trucked shipments as from last week.
-In addition, we are also seeing shipments by a growing number of Finnish GSAs sending export shipments by truck out of Finland on behalf of a number of smaller airlines in the market.
-At this stage, we concentrate on building and consolidating our business in the trucked cargo segment, but it will of course be only natural for us to add even flown export air cargo as well, which will require cooperation with an on-airport handling provider.
-We have taken note that Aviator is now entering the market after the take-over of the former Swissport handling company at Helsinki Vaanta Airport, and we will of course open negotiations with Aviator concerning a contract to provide us with ramp handling at a later stage when our efforts in the trucked cargo segment have matured, says Mr Nopanen.
ASR Cargo Center's 3,350 sq m facility is equipped with six loading docks, cool room, and X-ray equipment.
In Finland, trucked air cargo constitutes about 70 percent, or some 30,000 tonnes per year.
