May 06, 2014 (newstodate): Despite the current unrest in Ukraine, air traffic between Kiev and Lithuania is to be expanded.
Ukraine International Airlines will increase frequency on the route between Kiev and Vilnius to 11 weekly rotations, up from the current seven weekly flights offered.
All flights are performed with Boeing 737-500 aircraft connecting via Kiev Borispol Airport to UIA's network of flights to Ukraine, Europe and Southeast Asia.
The intensified air traffic will also benefit the cargo market where Strike Aviation has served as the airline's cargo GSSA in Lithuania since June 1, 2013, selling the one-tonne cargo capacity per flight on the Boeing aircraft.
The route was originally served by now-defunct Aerosvit and taken over by UTAir Ukraine from March 22, 2013, offering three weekly rotations with ATR 72 aircraft.
UTAir Ukraine's venture proved short-lived, however, as the carrier pulled out again from May 18, 2013, next replaced by Ukraine International Airlines from June 1, 2013.
