May 27, 2014 (newstodate): From July 1, 2014, all three state-owned international airports in Lithuania will come under unified management as one Plc.
Comprised by this new company will be the airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, and the current Vilnius Airport Managing Director, Gediminas Almantas will become Lithuanian Airports CEO.
-This marks the conclusion of a long process towards defining the role and assets of each of the three airports and a construction allowing them to develop their potentials to the utmost, says Arijandas Sliupas, vice-minister of transport & communications.
-The next step, already initiated, will be a new long-term strategy for the Plc, done by own and external specialists. We expect this work to be completed before the end of this year, and with this strategy confirmed we will know where best to allocate resources to optimize the capabilities of our airports infrastructure.
A fourth international airport in Lithuania, Siauliai Airport, is not comprised in the new structure, being part-owned by the Lithuanian defense and Siauliai Municipality.
