May 23, 2014 (newstodate): Kazakhstan is airing high ambitions for its future growth in international air connections.
Speaking at a recent aviation conference, the country's Minister of Transport and Communications said that the country will see the opening of a further 75 new international routes by 2020, bringing the total number to 128.
Part of the basis for these optimistic expectations is the recent lifting of EU restrictions on flights into the EU by Air Astana that may also indicate a return to European services by other Kazakh carriers, still under EU scrutiny.
Kazakhstan today has 18 airports, 12 of which meet ICAO requirements, and runway construction works are currently in the process at 13 airports while new terminals are under construction at nine Kazakh airports.
