May 23, 2014 (newstodate): As earlier reported by newstodate, Atlantic Airways has placed one Airbus A319 on a lease contract with the Icelandic LCC, WOW Air.
-We are satisfied that we have been able to agree to a wet-lease agreement with WOW Air for this summer, says Jorgen Holme, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-One of our A319 aircraft has now been based in Iceland and will fly for WOW Air until after the summer. The reason behind this opportunity is the development in Egypt, as we operate less than originally planned to this market, says Mr Holme.
Only one year after the introduction of the first Airbus A319 in March 2012, the Faroe Islands' carrier Atlantic Airways added a second Airbus in June 2013 to operate charter flights for tour operator Atlantis Rejser to leisure destinations, primarily out of Denmark's Billund Airport, and in August 2013 the carrier added a third A319, also driven by a second contract with the Danish tour operator to provide charter capacity primarily out of Copenhagen, from October 2013.
The first of the carrier's three Airbus A319 was delivered as an outright purchase, while the two other aircraft have been delivered on leasing contracts.
