May 05, 2014 (newstodate): Despite having two aircraft more than needed in its current flight program, Estonian Air is leasing additional aircraft capacity for the summer season.
The carrier has thus signed a wet-lease agreement with Lithuania's DOT, a subsidiary of Denmark's DAT, for one ATR42-500 aircraft during this summer schedule.
-Because FlyBe ceased operating the route between Tallinn and Stockholm Bromma Airport, we needed to increase our capacity on the route between Tallinn and Stockholm Arlanda Airport during the summer, says Jan Palmer, Estonian Air CEO.
-The ATR42-500 project will initially continue to the end of the summer season and after that we will evaluate if it is worth to continue.
-As for the two surplus Embraer 170, we have been pretty successful to contract the two aircraft in various external ACMI and Charter operations, which is important for us in reducing the costs from having two aircraft more than needed to operate our current tightly tailored operations that require the use of only five aircraft, says Mr Palmer.
In the carrier's fleet are four Embraer E-170 leased from Finnair until 2015 and three Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft.
