May 08, 2014 (newstodate): Emirates SkyCargo plays a significant role in the Emirates Group.
The company's cargo business now contributes some 15 percent of the airline's revenues, and in the financial year ending 31 March 2014, cargo volumes transported grew by eight percent, y-o-y, to 2.3 mio tonnes in a flat global air cargo market, while noting a one percent drop in cargo yields.
Emirates SkyCargo's fleet now comprises 12 freighters including 10 Boeing 777F and two Boeing 747-400ERF freighters, ten on operating lease and two on wet-lease contracts.
In the Nordic region, Emirates SkyCargo offers belly capacity on the daily Boeing 777 services to all three Scandinavian capitals.
The belly cargo capacity comes on top of Emirates SkyCargo's three weekly Boeing 777 freighter rotations between Gothenburg and Dubai, launched in 2003.
Vehement rumors in the industry claim that Emirates SkyCargo is mulling plans to stop the freighter services to Gothenburg, but this is still being negated by the carrier's Nordic GSSA as well as by Emirates' press service.
Since March 3, 2013, Emirates SkyCargo is also calling with a Boeing 777F once a week at Copenhagen Airport as an en-route stop on flights between Dubai and China, offering however only limited space in the Scandinavian market.
