May 19, 2014 (newstodate): The EU Commission has now approved Aviator's acquisition of the former Servisair Ground Handling operations at London Gatwick and Newcastle Airports in the UK and at Helsinki Airport in Finland as well as the former operations of Swissport International at Birmingham Airport in the UK.
With this approval, Aviator is to start re-branding the company at Helsinki, parked under the name of Helsinki Handling NewCo Oy.
With the acquisition, Aviator adds some 300 staff in Finland as well as another 600 in the UK to its present 2,900 personnel.
At Helsinki, Aviator will be offering a full handling package including passenger, ramp and de-icing services, as well as cargo ramp handling, while the ex-Servisair cargo terminal will remain with Swissport.
First new customer to the services by Aviator in Finland will be SAS from June 1, 2014, adding to the existing customer portfolio comprising Norwegian, KLM and Turkish Airlines.
