May 20, 2014 (newstodate): Yet unconfirmed, plans may be underway for start of Boeing 747 freighter services from Norway's Lakselv Banak Airport in the northern part of the country.
According to Finnmark Dagblad, a company named Viking International Airlines will place up to five Boeing 747 aircraft at Banak Airport to offer flights to destinations in North America and Asia, with the first aircraft, an all-cargo aircraft, to arrive in Norway for certification already in June this year, with plans for launch of services from September 2014.
Behind the ambitious venture is a former Atlas Air chief Pilot, John Kunkle, currently in Norway for talks with airports, authorities and potential customers including exporters of Norwegian seafood.
