Apr 03, 2014 (newstodate): Plans for construction of a new international airport in Georgia are still alive, despite earlier twists and turns.
The plans are for construction of a new airport at Anaklia, at the country's Black Sea coast and near a deep-water harbor.
The airport, details on which are still scarce, will reportedly include a focus of air cargo as well as international passenger traffic serving the strong oil and gas industries in the region as well as the logistics involving the commercial harbor.
With the renewed emphasis of the Anaklia Airport projects, plans for expanding the existing airport at Poti have been abandoned.
Talks are reportedly to be concluded later this summer with the American company Conti Group to take responsibility for the planing of both the harbor and airport projects.
