Apr 03, 2014 (newstodate): Cargo growth continued through this year's Q1 at Sweden's Jonkoping airport.
In January-March 2014, a total of 798 tonnes of international cargo was handled at the the airport - an increase by nine percent, y-o-y, thus continuing the positive growth by 10 percent in 2013.
On the other hand, mail volumes through the airport continue to drop in Q1 as a result of Post Sweden's decision in 2013 to end using Jonkoping Airport as a "mini-hub" since 2007 with five weekly night operations between Jonkoping Airport and Gothenburg, Malmoe, Sundsvall, Umeaa and Arlanda. Mail volumes were thus only 213 tonnes in Q1, 2014.
In 2013, the airport generated a total of 3,190 tonnes of cargo and 1,198 tonnes of mail, down 50 percent, y-o-y, due to Post Sweden's decision to end using Jonkoping Airport as its "mini-hub" since 2007.
News in 2014 include a boost to capacity with the introduction of West Atlantic's ATP freighter on the route to Oslo from February 3, 2014, replacing the SAAB 340 operated by Air Estonia, as well as Amapola taking over the postal flights to Stockholm Arlanda, replacing West Air on the route from February 1, 2014.
Since April 10, 2012, TNT has also been cooperating with Farnair operating an ATR 42-300 freighter on behalf of time:matters, carrying shipments from Baden Airpark, the airport serving Karlsruhe in Germany, to Jonkoping Airport and continuing to Billund Airport, in Denmark.
