Apr 23, 2014 (newstodate): Russia's Volgograd International Airport needs a comprehensive reconstruction - but bidders have have been late to sign up for the tender process.
The deadline for the tender has thus been repeatedly adjusted - and now reset for June 30, 2014.
The planned project includes a reconstruction of the airport including a new combined domestic and international terminal, a VIP facility, a new runway or, alternatively, extension of the existing one, a new apron, new power systems, and construction of a new rescue station.
Housing the airline RusLine, Volgograd International Airport was formerly an air force base, and has one 2,500m runway.
The latest international newcomer to the airport is flydubai that launched flights from Dubai on January 29, 2014.
