Apr 01, 2014 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport will see a modest increase in the total volume of flights during this summer's schedule.
Compared to last summer, the airport expects only a 2.2 percent increase in flights albeit 27 percent over this winter's flight volumes.
This season will see the addition of 12 new destinations to the airport's route map, and Wizz Air will launch its new base at Riga by June 2014 and add new routes from Riga to Barcelona, Doncaster Sheffield, Dortmund and Paris.
airBaltic has launched flights to Aberdeen in March, adding seasonal flights to Gothenburg and Burgas in April, as well as flights to Palma de Mallorca, Bucharest and Varna from June, while also increasing frequencies on existing flights on 14 routes.
Riga Airport is soon to announce a new air carrier to offer charter flights to Corfu, Greece, and Utair Ukraine is planning to launch new flights to Riga from Kiev Zhulyany Airport.
But at the same time airBaltic is scaling down frequencies on flights to a range of other destinations to allocate its capacity to seasonal routes more in demand during the summer.
