Apr 07, 2014 (newstodate): Thanks not least to its freighter traffic, Finnair's cargo volumes rose by 10 percent in March 2014, to a total of 13,447 tonnes.
Cargo on freighters thus contributed 3,614 tonnes which was 50.7 percent up, y-o-y. while cargo on passenger flights remained practically unchanged with 9,814 tonnes, only up 0.2 percent.
Growth was seen in the N Atlantic segment where volumes rose by 3.9 percent to 745 tonnes, and in the domestic segment with 155 tonnes, up 3.6 percent, but otherwise trends were rather flat, or negative, including the crucial Asian traffic where volumes were up only 0.3 percent to 7,040 tonnes.
In Q1, 2014, the company's total cargo volumes were 35,220 tonnes, an increase by 9.9 percent, y-o-y, thanks again to 9,340 tonnes on freighters, up 66 percent, and 25,817 tonnes on passenger flights, down by 1.6 percent, y-o-y.
During the first quarter, volumes on the Asian traffic were down 2.l1 percent, y-o-y, to 18,155 tonnes, while the N Atlantic segment has sen an increase by 6.2 percent to 2,035 tonnes.
