Apr 10, 2014 (newstodate): A new cargo handling provider may soon emerge in Finland's Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
As a result of Swissport's take-over of Servisair in 2013, ex-Servisair cargo companies at Helsinki Airport as well as at London Gatwick Airport and Newcastle Airport are to be divested by Swissport as part of the EU Commission's accept of the merger transaction.
In Finland, Swissport will retain ownership of the physical ex-Servisair 4,000 sq m cargo terminal while the cargo handling business will be sold to a new owner.
This handling business is currently parked under the temporary name Helsinki Handling NewCo Oy, but a new owner may be announced within a month after which the handling company will be re-branded accordingly.
While the transaction is still veiled pending approval by the EU, the new owner is a major international player, an industry source close to the process tells newstodate.
