Apr 01, 2014 (newstodate): Iceland's ACMI carrier Air Atlanta Icelandic has the economy of scale to grow its fleet - but keeps its growth strictly under control.
-We are well-positioned in the wide-body passenger ACMI market and are capable of answering to customer demands. But we do not grow wild, says Baldvin Mar Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic VP Sales & Marketing.
-Our business builds on back-to-back arrangements, meaning that we take in aircraft on the basis only of longer-term commitments with customers. As is well-known, an aircraft standing idle on the ground costs dearly.
-On the other hand we have the power to respond to customer demands provided ACMI contracts span at last 8-12 months. In this competitive environment there are often many short-term seasonal requests as airlines keep their own fleets tightly reined in - and many providers build their business on these one-off short-term contracts.
-Air Atlanta will add aircraft as meaningful opportunities arise, but we plan to keep our fleet below 20 units, currently going for a 15-17 aircraft fleet. And we stick to the wide-body segment solely, where potential customers know how to contact us, says Mr Hermannsson.
