Mar 04, 2014 (newstodate): Icelandair has recently brought one more Boeing 757-200 to its fleet, now comprising 21 aircraft of this type including also one Boeing 757-300.
This summer's schedule will thus be operated with three more Boeing 757 passenger aircraft than last year, allowing the carrier to expand its production by 18 percent, compared to last summer.
The route network of Icelandair now connects 13 cities in North-America with 25 cities in Europe, and Icelandair has now decided to increase flights to Washington to four or five times a week on an all-year basis.
The carrier has also restructured its cargo business to bring operations into profitability.
The number of freighter charter flights has been reduced, as two chartered Boeing 757-200F aircraft were returned, bringing the current cargo fleet down to three aircraft.
The key emphasis is now on carrying freight to and from Iceland both on the group's own freighters and in the belly-holds of Icelandair's passenger aircraft.
